Travelodge has announced that it will open 41 new hotels in 2012 for a grand total of 3,610 new rooms across the UK. This includes a brand new Travelodge Hotel in Stratford, East London, close to the new Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford shopping center.
The new hotels will bring the total number of hotels for the company to 537 hotels and over 39,000 rooms. Eleven of the 41 hotels opening this year will be in London, including what will be Travelodge’s 500th hotel, at Stratford, in East London. The new Stratford Hotel is due to open in February.
Other hotels to open in the capital include one in Greenwich and another close to the London ExCel where some of the London 2012 events will take place. Travelodge already claims to be the largest hotel brand in London with 43 hotels and 5,958 rooms.
The company has announced that it plans to create nearly 1,000 new jobs. Travelodge’s chief executive Guy Parsons said he is delighted to see the expansion across the UK and to be able to create new jobs in a tough economic climate. The brand aims to provide good quality budget accommodations and will concentrate on opening new hotels in the locations where consumers need them.
The new Stratford Hotel will certainly be a real success for the brand with the London 2012 Olympics taking place in Stratford this summer and the World Athletics Championship in 2017.
